Story behind the Bad Channel
The Bad Channel was a recurring element in nightmares I had as a child in the mid 2000's.
In most scenarios, I would be flipping through channels on my TV, or I'd reach the tail end of a VHS tape, and I'd hear the voice of announcer say something along the lines of "Coming up next, the Bad Channel."
The programming of the Bad Channel consisted of altered versions of some of my favorite cartoon and television shows in which the characters would get brutally maimed to death in various ways.
I would always panic when the Bad Channel would come on as it was something I couldn't escape.
Whenever I tried to cover my eyes, my vision would go into a third person view of myself watching the TV.
If I were to unplug the TV, the signal would just keep going.
The Bad Channel was like a psychological mesh of the cartoons that brought me happiness and inspiration, and the horrible shock videos I had been exposed to early on in my internet ventures.
In retrospect, the Bad Channel very well could have been an allegory for my perception of the internet at the time.
I was always in awe of how much I could learn from the web, but I was also very fearful as I never knew when horrifying shit would pop up when going down rabbit holes.
The landscape could go from lolcats to goatse or gore at a moments notice, and it's something I reluctantly had to accept in my pursuit of knowledge.
BAD CHANNEL IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION!!!
